Fall is the time for change and that is exactly what we are gearing up for. Some of you may already know that we are expecting a baby boy this November (oh boy!). We are very excited and I’ve been feeling confident that other changes need to happen too. So, we will be closing down the storefront in early September to focus on our online shop. It was a hard decision to make but I realize this is the best decision. I haven’t been able to update the website as much as I’d like while running the storefront (not an easy task, I must say), and this will enable me to do so. Plus, I am really excited about our upcoming new website which will make shopping easier for our online customers. Another change is that we will be offering a $5 delivery service in the Portland area. This is an easy way to shop and a great way for me to see my lovely customers face to face again. You can find out more about this service here.
I realize that raising a baby and running a dish shop probably don’t go well hand in hand. I’m sure it could happen but I’m not one who likes to waste time worrying about stuff. I want to enjoy things while I’m keeping busy learning about this little guy. At least at home, I’ll be able to store things away from those tiny hands of his and customers can enjoy shopping without the noise of a crying baby.
Considering all this, I now have a better understanding of why my mother always stored her lovely mug collection on the second shelf (out of reach for me at the time) and I always had to drink out of the crappy plastic cups. As a kid, I spent years waiting to get my hands on her collection. Something about them made me feel so grown up – even though I was only drinking water out of them. I used to make my mother cringe every time I would empty the dishwasher and take as many mugs as I could at once (one hanging from each finger), which is a skill I still carry with me today. I’m not sure what to do when our baby gets old enough to drink out of cups since we are not huge fans of plastic dishware. Perhaps he can be trained early on how to drink water out of a beautiful porcelain mug? Well… one can dream, right? I might just have to follow my mother’s lead when it comes to storing things up high for a bit. It will be a while before we get to that point, though. Who knows, he may totally hate dishes all together.
As we slowly pack things up at the shop and gear up for closing, I have to say that I am really going to miss my local, loyal customers. I hope we’ll still see each other by having the delivery service available and at future events, but what I will really miss is the random drop-ins and the interesting conversations that I get to have with everyone. I’ve had such wonderful luck with my customers and I am so grateful to have met some amazing, kind-hearted, wonderful people through the store. Thank you for your support and I hope to see you soon. XO.

That’s right! We are offering a delivery service in the Portland area for $5 for each location. This is a perfect way to buy gifts for those who have a busy schedule and can’t seem to make it down during our shop hours. Or, for people like myself, who really hate to go shopping, not to mention trying to find a place to park (I know I’m not the only one!). This makes gift shopping so easy!
Here’s how it works:
- Call us and let us know which item you’d like to purchase and where it needs to be delivered.
- We’ll accept payments over the phone or in person (cash or check only if in person).
- We’ll do a simple gift wrap and have the gifts ready to go for the following day. We do not deliver after 4pm due to that insane thing called “rush hour traffic”.
Take advantage of this sweet deal! Only $5 to have purchases delivered right to your door at any Portland area location. If you live outside of Portland or on the outskirts of Portland, please give us a call or send us an email for rates.

The good news: We just received a wonderful batch of goodies from Dovetail!
The bad news: It will be the last batch for a while. Dovetail is taking a break and focusing on life outside the studio (for now).
With that in mind, the store is full of the popular octopus, bicycle and neighborhood dishes. They are going fast and sadly, this will be the last of them.
We have very much enjoyed working with Dovetail and wish them the best of luck in their new adventure!
